Understanding Building a Business

With over 28 years of business experience not just managing but overseeing the operation of a business through many cycles enables me to provide a unique perspective on getting businesses noticed online, additionally I have been developing my own online business for over 8 years. My websites all rank very well on the major search engines for hundreds of keywords, visitors to my sites has grown exponentially over the years, today I receive over 600,000 hits on an average month with over 20,000 unique visitors.

Over the years I have become very knowledgeable on properly positioning keywords for high rankings online then last year I decided to start using my expertise to assist other in obtaining high rankings in addition to creating great designs for people who also need a website. When putting together informational pages I always find myself designing it like a question and answer session , I guess that comes from all my years in business where when I had questions I had to figure out the best way to achieve the answer so by using questions and answers I might be able to answer some of the questions you might have.

New Site Developed - ConnsPotatoChips.com

We have created a new look for Conn's Potato Chip in Zanesville, Ohio, the shopping cart is still being updated by the site is up and running giving the old look a complete overhaul giving Conn's a top notch look to move into the future , this new look offers many interactive features sure to entice new business and keep the old happy.

This was a large project where all images we newly created and content developed additionally a new affiliate program has been added so Conn's can now compete on a national level. Conn's is also expanding into private label chips so companies looking to use Conn's fresh flavor can now put their own packaging on this high quality brand.

Design and Development

The year has started off busy with a couple projects that are finally coming to a finish, one has been completed now and our customer is ready to do some business. We created a beautiful design that is sure to excite new customers, at least we hope they are enthused. This was a small project which was simply modifying a shopping cart that offered many great features with a unique design.

GUDesigns.com has had a nice year for the first year, we have done several jobs some much larger than others but one thing is in common all of our customers have been happy. Though this site physically has only been up since April of this year I have been doing work for over 8 years. Where has the time gone? You always hear about how time flies the older you get but until you actually are a little older you really never realize the truth in that fact.

Winter is here early!

Now only early December and we are expecting bitter cold weather, hope this is not a sign of how bad the winter will be. Normally in the winter I do the majority of my web work a with my other business things really slow down so I have nothing but time just to relax and enjoy my online work.

This year I started off much different though I have really made a effort on building my design business by placing many types of advertising online, mainly on high ranked sites plus in the local phone book. Believe it or not I am the only web design company that advertises in the local phone book, can you believe that? They gave me a great deal on my advertising in hopes of trying to build some business, do not know if that makes me stupid or not so I guess we will see if it produces any business.

Advertising has importance:

There are many ways to advertise your site online that is cost effective to fit your budget though you need to understand the importance of how a site ranks and if they are properly using keywords with in there site to obtain high ranking or if the site is only ranked for it name and no other keywords.

A fatal mistake for most site owners is not ranking there site for what they do but ranking it for who they are, are you one of those people! Over the last couple of years I have noticed online advertising costs coming down for the independent site which is good for any business looking to advertise online.

Taking your business online!

This is never an easy thought as most brick and mortar businesses really do not have a good understanding on what the internet can do for them when properly harnessed. Many small business owners opt to build there site on there own which can be a big mistake especially if you are not willing to take the time to really understand what needs to be done to get noticed online.

Ask yourself a few simple questions:

Have you ever done any html, java, php or mysql database work?

It is essential that you have a basic understanding of how to build a website other wise you present a professional image in one business and are wasting your time in another.

Can you take the time to learn?

Alot of time is required to learn the basice of how to get your site ranked online, but if cash is tight than you have to do what you have to do.

It always amazes me though that the same person that says he has no money will spend money on newspaper advertising. You have the money to build a website the problem is you do not see the value in it, you are probably saying with over a billion sites online I will never get noticed anyways and that could not be further from the truth!

Coming up on 30 days for development of DebBixler.com

Our latest site has now been up almost 30 that was developed for Deb Bixler, a public speaker located in York, Pennsylvania. Deb faced a not so unusual problem of virtually no visibility for her main speaking site and her 2 blogs.

I met Deb almost 2 months ago now and after talking with her in depth about her dilema, she hired me to develop her a website, this site took approximately 20 business days to develop to her exacting specifications and on completion she asked me how long before she would be on the search engines for terms other than her name.

Advertising Dollars at Work

In the past couple months I have be spending a few bucks advertising my new business so I thought I would share with the results thus far.

First off a couple of days ago I installed Google Analytics into 4 of my sites and the results are great, this is a great feature that google offers giving you the ability to see when and where people come from who visit your site, enabling you know to see exactly what they are looking at. The idea is for better conversion to dollars, I wish I had installed it earlier but you know the old saying "Better late than never"!
